My name is Danielle, and I am Gabrielle's mother.
My sweet daughter has been diagnosed with a fatal disease, and she is running out of time. Niemann-Pick Type C is a genetic metabolic disease in which the body is unable to breakdown lipids. In Type C of this disease lipids are stored primarily in the brain. These deposits replace healthy cells causing multiple neurologic problems, including balance and coordination difficulties, motor skill delays, and speech problems. Type C is diagnosed in early to mid childhood and life expectancy after diagnosis is merely 6-10 years. We have an opportunity to participate in experimental treatments overseas which may have a huge impact on her progression.
