Jodi Jones, a mountain musician, songstress, and storyteller from west-central Pennsylvania, enchants audiences with her intimate familiarity of the past and a deep, generational connection to her roots. Her high, lonesome sound is equally compelling in ballads and bluegrass, and she's adept at playing just about any instrument she can get her hands on. Brendan Macie was formally educated in Bluegrass Banjo in Johnson City, Tennessee, with roots in Chautauqua Co., NY. Macie has performed up and down the east coast, carrying his traditional approach to three-finger banjo wherever he goes. Sugaree String Society is a testament to their shared passion towards Central & Northern Appalachia—a love letter to the region that shaped them both. Their music offers a deceptively simple, radically honest, and intimate glimpse into the living, breathing cultural legacy of Appalachia and its diverse, vibrant people.
