The Royal Me straddles the line between guitar-heavy indie rock and alternative pop, focusing on melodic texture and lyrical explorations of (ex)urban malaise, both intentional and ironic. The Royal Me’s debut album, President Astronaut (2017), mined myriad influences, including The Replacements, Superchunk, Pavement, Guided by Voices, Willie Nelson, Wilco, and more. Their sophomore effort, Slow Arson (2019), recorded at River Studios in Waltham, MA, featured a denser, multi-layered sound, incorporating a variety of keys, horns, miscellaneous percussion, and vocal effects. Their third release, Trip Logs (2024), consists of songs from 2019-2020. Born from a horrific moment of machismo gone wrong and expanded during a pandemic as a remote recording project, the songs exhibit different sides of the group’s sensibilities. Their yet-to-be-named fourth release, slated for late 2024, features the first songs generated in a creative outburst after a new member joined the band in late 2021.
