Hi, I’m Seb Dunn and I love to teach.
I am the Fourth Horn of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and have been in this position since 2021.
In 2014, five years before audition success, I went through the process of re-learning how to play the horn, totally changing my approach with Gail Williams, Jon Boen and John Henes at Northwestern University, Chicago. Were it not for their thoughtful, grounded and fundamentals based approach to teaching, I don’t think I’d have ever become a full time orchestral musician.
During my time with the NZSO, I have had to rehabilitate my playing through fifteen months of concussion recovery, six of which I couldn’t even play the horn, and through the chronic arm pain which followed, resulting in more months off work.
Cut to 2026, I am totally pain free, moving better than I was at 20 and am playing the horn with more ease and flexibility than I ever have.
