I’m Dave Holt. I create art on ancient petrified wood and stone. For the past five years, I’ve been building an evolving symbolic system, continuously. The symbols don’t come from theory. They form, change, and evolve over time, like the objects I use as my canvas. Most of this didn’t come out of a studio. It formed under stress, pressure, rupture, and sustained constraint. My art is the structure that holds that. Each week, I release my art as it is. No explanation. No breakdown. Just the object. Once a week, I speak to what was happening as it formed, while the symbolic system was developing, and continuing to develop, not after. This is not about finished ideas. This is about art under stress, pressure, rupture, contained into structure, and what it becomes.
