David Huckfelt is a singer/ lyricist /activist whose songs of no-spiritual-surrender have earned him a cult following in dark hollows off the beaten path of the music business’s rushing roar. An Iowa native and former theology student, Huckfelt attended the Iowa Writers Workshop before quitting academic pursuits and turning his attention to songwriting and performing. With improvisational mastery, Huckfelt’s performances have earned him a devout following from small-town opera houses to national stages like Hardly Strictly, Edmonton Folk Fests, and legendary First Avenue. Performing with artists as diverse as Mavis Staples, Bon Iver, Emmylou Harris, Calexico, Gregory Alan Isakov, & Iris Dement, Huckfelt’s roots also run deep as a folksinger steeped in the tradition of performing other artists’ songs. An early encounter with legendary Native American poet John Trudell introduced him as friend & ally to an array of Native artists including Keith Secola, Louise Erdrich & Quiltman.
