The Shark Research & Conservation Program (SRC) at the University of Miami conducts cutting-edge shark research while also inspiring scientific literacy and environmental ethic in youth through unique hands-on field research experiences. Every year, SRC brings out hundreds of people, mostly school-children, on our research vessels to survey, sample, tag and study sharks. We especially try to serve communities that have been historically (and often currently) excluded from STEM opportunities, including connecting girls and women through our F.I.N.S. Program. To reach beyond South Florida, SRC also uses a variety of online education tools, including social media, blogs, educational videos and, online curricula to communicate shark science to the public.
