I started DJing in Philadelphia in 1999 to attend law school. There were two reasons I dropped out. The first reason derived from multiple reasons given by practicing attorneys and judges at a required event for first years in which most of them described a rather miserable existence for attorneys in their early years of practicing. I had already been warned by Robert Kory, a Los Angeles entertainment attorney to whom I reported in my first job out of college. I got the job partly because I had gotten my undergrad degree in philosophy at UCLA (1995). Robert had also gotten his degree in philosophy, but at Yale, so he had a deep appreciation of the power of philosophy. I always build my mixes thematically. Instead of planning a set. I curate a batch of fifty to a hundred songs based on 1) a theme I have in mind and 2) the compatibility of their keys. (It's a good thing that I took trumpet and clarinet lessons.as a child.)
