I'm tired of paying for subscriptions to big tech companies only to have my data hacked, or the prices go up or the software to get worse or discontinued.
So I'm trying to do something about it by building my first home server and trying to replace subscriptions with open source alternatives. That's how I got into home servers, but I didn't realise how nice it feels to replace that negative tech experience with something free, that I own and control, and is private.
In a time where tech companies want to harvest us for data and for us to own nothing while jacking up the price, having a home server with self hosted apps feels like a safe haven.
I'm just at the start of my journey with self-hosted open source solutions, but I see that this is the way. If you're interested in watching my journey from normie abused saas customer to empowered almost subscriptionless tech enthusiast, then hit subscribe pls.
Thank you :)
