American rock and world music group Kev Bev was founded by multi-instrumentalist and lead singer Kevin “Kev Bev” Collins in 2013. The Austin thirteen-piece originally called “Kev Bev and the Woodland Creatures” dropped the “Woodland Creatures” part of the name following some member changes in 2018. The group continued to push the boundaries of genre through the layering of dance rhythms, voices, guitars, and horns, incorporating eclectic influences such as Sly and the Family Stone, The Clash, Talking Heads, and Outkast. Three studio albums later, with a fourth currently in the works, Kev Bev has toured the US and Spain, sharing a message of connection and inclusion. Songs like “History Books” touch on social issues with a funky dance rhythm and pair well with the light-hearted jamming horn lines on tracks like “Basketball Bender”.
