Inspiring people to protect Bay Area birds since 1917. Golden Gate Audubon Society engages people to: Experience the wonder of birds and translate that wonder into action; and Protect native bird populations and their habitats. With 7,000 members in San Francisco and the East Bay, we are one of the largest Audubon chapters in the country. We offer over 150 free bird walks each year, along with birding classes, guest speakers, and volunteer opportunities. We mobilize over 2,600 volunteers to restore habitat, advocate for birds and wildlife, and engage in citizen science, including the annual San Francisco and Oakland Christmas Bird Counts. Our award-winning Eco-Education program introduces over 650 elementary schoolchildren and their families each year to the natural areas and wildlife of their communities. Join us for a field trip or habitat work day! See goldengateaudubon.org for more information on our activities. Masthead photo of Black Oystercatchers by Gail West.
