Rex Omar is a Ghanaian afro-jazz and highlife singer, composer, arranger, producer and culture advocate who is regarded as the most authentic Ghanaian artiste. He was born on 6th February, 1965, same birthday as legendary Bob Marley. Since Rex Omar hit the scenes in the late 80s, he has gained wide recognition in the West African region and beyond. Having performed internationally at a variety of places including almost all West African countries, Southern and Eastern Africa and the Indian Ocean. Indeed a performance by him in Britain in October 2000 earned him a description by British promoters, Serious, as “Ghana’s most exciting musical export…” with the London entertainment magazine Time Out predicting Rex is “… going to raise the stakes for Ghana’s music”. He is the only Ghanaian artiste who has been used as postage stamp by the British Council, Ghana. His singing style portrays influences from the praise singers of Northern Ghana and Ashanti.
