MBuRST is sponsored by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. We are a student project team in the Student Space Systems Fabrication Lab (S3FL) at the University of Michigan. MBuRST has successfully launched and recovered 16 space balloons within the last year. This activity at the University of Michigan has allowed students to get a practical, hands-on experience in designing, building, testing and launching systems. While they are not nearly as complex as real satellite systems, they give the student an extremely good idea of how complex systems interact and the problems with integration and operation of real systems in a near space environment. This is invaluable experience that shortens the technology readiness level during the transition from the university to corporate world.
