Oakland School for the Arts (OSA) is a non-profit, public charter school founded in 2002 by then-Mayor and current CA Governor, Jerry Brown. Housed in Downtown Oakland's historic Fox Theater and Sweet's Ballroom, OSA serves 739 students in grades 6-12, tuition-free. OSA serves a diverse student body with students coming from the Bay Area and beyond. Any California resident may apply.
During their years at OSA, students complete a challenging academic curriculum while focusing in one of ten artistic fields: Digital Media, Literary Arts, Dance, Instrumental Music, Vocal Music, Theater, Visual Arts, Figure Skating, Circus Arts or Production Design. OSA's faculty is comprised of professional artists and state-credentialed academic teachers. All of OSA's arts teachers are successful, working artists.
In 2015, 93% of OSA's graduating class transitioned straight into colleges and universities.
