I'm Susan Mara Bregman, a Boston-based author and photographer. You'll find me online as Red Nickel Neon or just plain Red Nickel. I started photographing neon signs in the Boston metropolitan area a few years ago and quickly fell in love with these landmarks of light. Soon I was on a mission to document the New England neon landscape before it disappeared. My first book, NEW ENGLAND NEON, came out in September 2018 from Arcadia Publishing. My neon quest led me to other adventures in retro New England, and I've published three more books, again in partnership with Arcadia: NEW ENGLAND CANDLEPIN BOWLING (2020), ALONG ROUTE 1: MAINE, NEW HAMPSHIRE, AND MASSACHUSETTS (2023), and NEW ENGLAND SWEETS (2025).
