Welcome to the official page of the Northwestern Michigan College Jazz Bands in Traverse City, MI! Open to community members and college students, the NMC Jazz Bands are for the performer with a focus on big band jazz ensemble techniques and styles. A wide range of jazz styles are covered including swing, be-bop, ballads, rock/fusion, and Latin. Some improvisation is explored, and always encouraged, though it is not the main focus. A minimum of one concert will be performed each semester and all members are required to attend and participate in all scheduled performances. Details for rehearsals and performances announced in class. May also be taken for academic credit. Prospective students/members should contact Josh Wagner, Director of Jazz Bands, to inquire about openings and audition requirements. Due to the tradition of groups like this each ensemble is limited to one on a part which means we don't always have openings.
