Mad Capulet is the recording project of producer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, poet, novelist, teacher, and film professor Travis Ian Smith, who once led a now-defunct grunge-pop band that ran Central Texas in the early 90s. In 2022, on a numerically significant birthday, inspired by artists (Bon Iver, Goth Babe) who, before headlining festivals, made music in their bedroom, Mad Capulet set out to produce music on his laptop laden with pop, soul, hip-hop, and indie elements that he himself longed to hear. His goal is to write your favorite song despite some obvious challenges, namely not having a world-class recording studio or other bandmates to rely on. But this is just fine with him, writing and recording songs in his bedroom, because that’s where it all started many years ago when he was teenager flailing on a cheap guitar in his post-punk/new-wave posters-on-every-wall room and suddenly struck dumb by his talent for writing melodies.
