... where aircraft are auto-tracked around airports and on final approach!
I've always enjoyed watching planes land. I got my PPL in my 20's and even took my kids to the airport many times when they were little - two of them now have careers in aviation :) When ADS-B became a U.S. requirement in 2020, it was interesting to watch the aircraft "radar" tracks on sites like FlightAware, but I missed seeing the actual landings ... so my new hobby was born - building a camera that will follow a plane on final approach!
The OnFnl cameras use the GPS data broadcast by each aircraft (ADS-B) to follow them around the airport. If there is more than one aircraft, landing aircraft have priority. Currently, there are two active test sites - KRAS (near Corpus Christi, TX) and 40XS (near Austin, TX).
It's a work-in-progress but I'll periodically share videos of that progress (or of interesting aircraft) because I know a few of you also like to watch planes land!
