10 YEARS LATER, I'M NOT AS POOR BUT STILL HUNGRY!
When other friends of Lehman College busy celebrating their graduation—I was busy thinking: Does the tassel's worth the hassle? Why? Because I can't connect the dots looking forward [to NYU]; I can only connect them looking backwards—not only to Lehman College—but to all the way BMCC.
Yes, I must admit—it wasn't all romantic. When I started BMCC back in 2004, I didn't have a room, so I had to sleep on the floor in friends' dorms—and when I transferred to York College in 2005—I remember walking 2 miles across New Hyde Park every day during the Ramadan—to get one good meal (Ifter) at the Hillside Islamic Center.
10 years later, I'm not as poor (thanks to NYU) but I'm still hungry—its different kind of hunger—hunger for education. Hence, instead of Islamic Center, I go to library to get many good meals simultaneously! I'm @ NYU now—but I don't think NYU—alone will be able to decrease my hunger!
