Singer, musician, songwriter, and entrepreneur, Rita Martinez, began singing at the very young age of 4.
Martinez started singing professionally at 17, becoming part of the showband Unity. After a 6-month stint, she decided to devote all of her time to pursue her college education and temporarily put on hold her singing in order to learn the ropes of their family business.
A year after (2006), Rita got back into the music scene where she, along with her friends, formed the band Breaking Silence. They did covers with themes that fall under the rock alternative genre.
Martinez’s big break finally came in 2014 when she joined The Voice of the Philippines Season 2. Bamboo Manalac took her under his mentorship which led her to become one of the semi-finalists. It was also in this program wherein Rita expressed her hopes to set an example and be an inspiration to the LGBT community to push for the freedom to be their true selves.
