Biography
If Andrew Johnston's previous album "The Wake of the Wonder Years" was a deeply personal album that explored themes of loss, redemption and ruined friendship, his new project "Brace for Impact" is a much more outward-looking effort that takes on politics and difficult big-picture questions head on. The unflinching project explores themes such as the individual against society, freedom under attack, and the kind of real-world hardships that visit themselves upon even the most innocent and undeserving. Often the songs are character driven, and we find the songs' protagonists struggling for survival in an indifferent world. From the song "Night owl" which deals with the suicidal mindset to "Stand By You" which addresses strength in the face of a cancer diagnosis, the songs on "Brace for Impact" are direct, and brutally honest.
Growing up in Ottawa and now calling Montreal home, Andrew has been releasing albums under his name, or the moniker Andrew Vs. the Enabler since 2006
