An online resource to learn about the Civil Air Patrol's Alabama Wing soaring program and to see how members enjoy one of CAP's greatest benefits--glider flight. Every CAP cadet is eligible to take five free glider flights. Every CAP member, cadet or senior, is eligible to pursue any FAA rating in a Civil Air Patrol glider. The instruction and the use of the glider are free. The only cost is that of the tow plane. The Alabama Wing (ALWG) program is centrally based in the state at historic Wetumpka Municipal Airport, 08A, five miles east of Interstate 65 on Hwy 14. The operation is staffed by experienced glider orientation pilots, instructors, tow pilots and ground crew. With a beautiful place to fly and generous thermal lift in the area, our focus is on soaring flight; flight times are generally double that found at other CAP operations. Any CAP unit or member is welcome to contact us to arrange flights or instruction. HIGH FIVE!
