Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is an under diagnosed form of heart attack, caused by a tear in the inner layers of an artery. It often strikes young, otherwise healthy people -- mostly women -- and can lead to significant heart damage, even sudden death. SCAD Research, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is dedicated to increasing awareness of SCAD and raising funds for research.
