Learning from the past how to build a greener future. Traditional building courses in Timber Framing, Restoration Skills and Greenwood Roofs. Currently (2020) we are reinstating a traditional timber frame Long House. First built in 1580 we are attempting to repair and re-use original timbers, and are sourcing oaks from local woods for the rest of the frame. If you have framing skills and live locally to Orchard Barn, Ringshall, Mid Suffolk, UK and would like to help us complete and raise the frame in 2021 we'd love to hear from you! We're also going to need help with making and fitting shingles, battens, lathes, wattle and daub and many other low carbon deep green home made building materials. Our aspiration is to close the building in by the autumn of 2021, and in the current situation that is a very big aspiration. However we do have a airy outdoor site and lots of lovely volunteers, so fingers crossed we will make it. That said, your help would be great too!
