Ben Morris is a composer and jazz pianist whose music tells unconventional stories and crosses genre boundaries. He recently studied in Oslo, Norway on a Fulbright Grant, composing a work for big band and video inspired by his Norwegian heritage. His compositions have been performed by ensembles including the American Composers Orchestra, NOW Ensemble, the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, unassisted fold, Imani Winds, Living Earth Show, and the NDR Big Band. Morris performed at the Newport Jazz Festival, attended the Aspen Music Festival, studied at the National Gugak Center in Korea, and received the ASCAP Morton Gould and Herb Alpert Awards, commissions from the Washington National Opera, American Composers Orchestra Jazz Composers Institute, and New York Youth Symphony, and two Downbeat Awards. Morris graduated from University of Colorado Boulder, Rice University, and University of Miami, and is currently Assistant Professor of Composition at Stephen F. Austin State University.
