Lake Chapala is the largest lake in Mexico and is still somewhat of a hidden gem. It is 1,538 metres (5,046 ft) above sea level in the Sierra Madre Mountain Range. There is a large expat community of Americans, Canadians and various other cultures that have settled here, mostly due to it's spectacular lush greenery, lake views, proximity to a major city, Guadalajara, and it's international airport, with an average yearly temperature of 75 degrees fahrenheit.
