Here you can see and hear the kora, the west-African harp which is played mainly in the Gambia, Mali, Guinée and Senegal. But this beautiful instrument is also played in Amsterdam, the Netherlands by Albert Distelbrink. My first contact with the kora was 35 + years ago, for sure. Since then I had several teachers from the countries mentioned above and I also find my own way on the kora. In all the traditional pieces I play, I try to add up some variations, melodies and rhythms of my own. I would like to share my passion for the kora with you. You can see and hear songs from my album "Kora Dioulo", live performances as well as home recordings. I am also pleased to be part of a group called "Mokumfoli" where alongside the kora you can hear balafons, djembe's, doun doun and other percussion. I also play with musicians from other backgrounds, like the project "Paradiya", a combination of the kora with the bansuri, bambooflute from India, a warm world music blend. I also play African pop.
