In One Stroke is a jazz quartet from Hong Kong which performs mainly original compositions. The name draws reference from one stroke paintings which are done with a single brush stroke, which is how the band aspires to interpret their music: shaping a piece from beginning to end as seamlessly as if it was done in one ‘stroke’. Also, as an expression, when something happens immediately it is said to be happening ‘in one stroke’, which describes the essence of jazz accurately: when you improvise, you create each moment ‘in one stroke’.
