The Friends of St. Machar’s Cathedral work to promote worship, friendship, and the maintenance of the cathedral. At present, we are showcasing our lunchtime Music at One series. 😊 The cathedral is remarkable and unique to the city of Aberdeen, as well as nationally and internationally. It is at the heart of the community of Old Aberdeen, on a site of continual worship for more than 1500 years. This beautiful, peaceful and welcoming building is recognised as one of the earliest Renaissance cathedrals in Scotland. Over the centuries, it has developed a very special character serving the needs and tastes of generations of worshippers and visitors. There are many treasures of national importance here, including the spectacular heraldic ceiling, which was erected in 1520 and which celebrates its Quincentenary in 2020.
