Bob Marley sang that the people from Trenchtown, a slum in Kingston, were not trusted with anything. This was also the case when Basement Roots from the Lucerne suburb of Emmenbrücke performed in the city for the first time. The concert hall was full of people with expectations that were exceeded to such an extent that they went wild for minutes at the end.
Since then, Basement Roots has been on the road almost non-stop. They still surprise the audience from time to time by suddenly belting out dialect songs by Phenomden or bringing guest musicians on stage. But anyone who knows Basement Roots now knows what the band, which was founded in 2010, has to offer. The band carries its homage to the Jamaican 60s and 70s out into the world authentically and with great passion. What really characterises Basement Roots, however, are the close, loving friendships within the band that have grown over the years and can be felt far beyond the stage.
