The Lowe Art Museum serves both its parent institution (the University of Miami) and greater Miami-Dade County as a critical resource for education, enrichment, engagement, and enjoyment. Founded in 1950, the Lowe is the region’s oldest comprehensive art museum: Its collections comprise more than 19,250 works of fine art or culturally significant archaeological/ethnographic material, which collectively represent more than five millennia of art and culture on every inhabited continent. The Museum leverages these rich holdings in the service of the tens of thousands of individuals—from across the University of Miami’s three campuses, throughout South Florida, and around the country—who visit its galleries each year.
