When I was first trained by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in the early '70s to become a TM teacher, the idea was to 'conquer the castle' (ground of being), and everything else would be sorted. We were even trained to sense any discomfort in the body, should it come up during meditation. However, my peace was unreliable, and it did not bring everything into order. Hangups flared up when triggered, and the fear that they could show up at any time made things worse over the years - until I realised that my subconscious conditioning continued to control many of my behaviours, irrespective of my training in meditation and my familiarity with the core of being.
