Established in 1880, Lewis Eady has built a legacy of excellence in New Zealand’s music community. For over a century, we have proudly been the country’s sole agent for Steinway & Sons and its family of pianos — Boston and Essex — while remaining dedicated to the sale of fine pianos and print music. Over the years, Lewis Eady has grown to encompass Aoyama Harp, piano services and rebuilding, an instrument workshop, a café, a music school, and the Chiron Lewis Eady Foundation supporting emerging New Zealand musicians, and the nation’s first-ever Steinway Technical Department.
Founder Lewis R Eady arrived in New Zealand in 1865 from England with his parents and two brothers, Arthur and William. Lewis worked in his brother Arthur's music business before setting up his own, specialising in selling pianos in the Auckland city centre. Lewis Eady moved premises several times before finally settling into the new family-owned property at 75 Great South Road, Remuera, Auckland in 2001.
