As creator of The Bow and the Brush, he has commissioned 27 pieces and composed 15 pieces inspired by paintings and performed solo recitals across the United States and Europe, including Carnegie Hall, Boston University, University of Rome, Stern Pissarro Gallery, and The American Library in Paris. These compositions can be heard on his album, The Bow and the Brush, released by MSR Classics. Flanagan has performed as concertmaster with the Oakland Symphony, Santa Rosa Symphony, California Symphony, California Musical Theater, Festival Opera, Symphony San Jose, Modesto Symphony, and Opera Parallèle. He performs with San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Ballet, Trio Solano, Berkelium String Quartet, and Eco Ensemble.
