The 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based out of Camp Lejeune, N.C., is one of seven MEUs in the U.S. Marine Corps. The 24th MEU recently returned from a 9-month deployment in which they served as an expeditionary crisis response force. They worked within several areas of responsibilty including U.S. Central Command, U.S. Africa Command, and the Navy's 5th and 6th Fleet. The 24th MEU consisted of a command element and three subordinate elements; Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 261 (Reinforced), and Combat Logistics Battalion 24. These elements epitomize the organizational structure of the U.S Marine Corps -- the Marine Corps Air Ground Task Force, or MAGTF.
