Asylum was a short-lived yet highly influential hardcore punk band from Stoke-on-Trent, England, active
between 1981 & 1982. Formed by a group of punks and skinheads, they embraced the “Noise Not
Music” ethos, delivering an aggressive sound characterized by detuned guitars, fuzzed bass, rapid
drumming, and raw vocals. Their intense style earned them the label “1,000 M.P.H. Hardcore Punk” and
inspired future acts like Skum Dribblurzzzz and Napalm Death.
Asylum’s impact on the hardcore punk scene was significant.
