The Initiativ is an indie rock duo formed in June 2023. Made up of Julie and Mateo, the band draws inspiration from a wide range of genres, including Britpop, Post-Punk, New Wave, and Psychedelic Rock.
At the heart of The Initiativ's sound is the complementarity of their mixed vocals, blending two almost opposite timbres that intertwine throughout each song. Through lyrics exploring human relationships, romantic tensions, longing, and nostalgia, the duo consistently finds balance and harmony—crafting songs that weave a guiding thread through chaos and a ray of light through darkness.
The project is built upon a powerful rhythm section, featuring sharp, dynamic drums and a warm, sophisticated bass that takes on a leading role within the band's sonic identity. On the guitar side, shimmering melodies coexist with deep, powerful riffs, occasionally drifting into a world of post-apocalyptic textures and atmospheres.
The Initiativ released their latest single, "At Your Side," in May 2026.
