The CLEAR Center (Clarity and Leadership for Environmental Awareness and Research) at UC Davis is advancing sustainable animal agriculture through science-based research, on-farm field work, and public engagement. Led by Dr. Frank Mitloehner, a professor and Cooperative Extension Specialist in the UC Davis Department of Animal Science, the CLEAR Center focuses on measuring and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from livestock, including methane. By combining research and extension, the CLEAR Center works directly with farmers, ranchers, researchers, industry partners, and policymakers to develop practical, real-world climate solutions for dairy, beef, pork, and other livestock systems. Collaboration and trust across the food supply chain are central to the Center’s mission. Through field research, education, and transparent science, the CLEAR Center helps animal agriculture reduce its environmental footprint while continuing to provide nutritious food for a growing global population.
