Sonic Lobotomy is an independent television show and record label founded by TJ Welch. It began in 2004 as a DIY music TV show, created with his friend Joe Macon, with the goal of bringing local bands into a studio to capture their performances with high-quality video and sound. Early episodes featured the unforgettable energy of sound engineer Markie Mayhem, whose presence helped shape the show’s unique identity. Both Joe and Markie have since passed away, but their passion and spirit remain at the heart of Sonic Lobotomy. Over the years, the show has been filmed in a variety of public access studios, including Danvers, Brookline, and Salem, with the generous support of the dedicated people at these nonprofit stations. In 2025, Sonic Lobotomy expanded into a record label, continuing its mission to support and spotlight underground music. More than just a show, Sonic Lobotomy is a tribute to community, creativity, and the raw energy of the Boston area music scene.
