The Next Step Quintet traces its roots to the halls of the Music Department of the Ionian
University. Here, Thodoris Kotsyfas, Giannis Papadopoulos, Ntinos Manos and Vasilis
Podaras collaborated on a variety of projects, and through their common vision in music
their talents flourished. In 2011, the four combined forces with Orpheus Tsoukalas and,
after a year of frenetic creativity, their eponymous album was released through the Greek
record label Puzzlemusik. Their 2012 debut was met with great acclaim, and the publicity
generated by a number of enthusiastic reviews in the press led to their being booked for
several concerts and festivals across Greece. While Tsoukalas only contributed to the one
album, the four original members completed their lineup with a succession of guest
artists, including the likes of the New York singer, JD Walter and tenor saxophonist
