Darwasha Project is an explosive fusion of Progressive rock, metal and Oriental with Arabic music traditions. An independent music project formed by Egyptian composer, guitarist and oud player Mohamed Darwish, the band is inspired by musical theatre, bands such as Dream Theater and twentieth-century Arabic music and poetry. The result is sophisticated, hard-driving metal and Prog rock-scale songs, but with a twist of atmospheric Arabic lyrics and accompanying oud pickings. "The sound that Darwish craves is unconventional – fusing melodies of a nostalgic Arab era in an unlikely mix with the metal that has been the secret world of many an adolescent,” writes Chitra Kalyani in The Cairo Beat blog.
