The Eli J. & Phyllis N. Segal Citizen Leadership Program was established at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University in 2007, to honor and extend the work of Eli Segal '64, who is best known for his leadership developing AmeriCorps and Welfare-to-Work initiatives in the Clinton Administration and for his talent for inspiring young people. The Program commemorates this legacy, advances Segal’s passion for citizen engagement, and continues his commitment to developing new generations of citizen leaders. Based at the Center for Youth and Communities at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management, the Program benefits from the research staff and faculty’s expertise in leadership development, service learning, evaluation and capacity building. The Segal Program supports and encourages emerging leaders to engage in a lifetime of citizen service, and serves as a platform to promote citizen leadership.
