AMA was founded in 1977 and initially known as the World Association of Veteran Athletes (WAVA) until 2001. AMA’s history includes organizing biannual Asian Masters Athletics Championships, which are held in the opposite years of the World Masters Athletics Championships. The organization also hosts the Asia Masters General Assembly, where the locations for future championships are selected.
