Dave Leach (me) grew up with Alonzo Leach Musical Instruments founded by my grandfather in 1922. My wife, Dorothy, and I still operate it, now called the Family Music Center, which merged with Miller Music which had been founded in 1921. I love performing with my students, along with other willing adults. My first video of me doing that, posted here along with videos since, was in 1976. Before that, my dad, Joe, did the same thing since I first picked up a cornet in 3rd grade; arguably the best clarinet player in Des Moines, he organized his musician friends into small groups, for which he wrote the arrangements in a way that his own children could perform along with good musicians. Whenever family came to visit from other states, they had to bring their instruments so we could all perform together. When he died some 20 of us played for his funeral - that time, I wrote the arrangement. Our conductor was Roger Maxwell who had previously conducted mass choruses of The Messiah.
