Organist Howard Wales has typically been best known for his collaborations with Grateful Dead front man Jerry Garcia. After honing his chops during the mid-1960s backing acts ranging from Ronnie Hawkins, Lonnie Mack, the Four Tops to James Brown, Wales eventually settled in San Francisco, joining the group A.B. Skhy; He first performed with Garcia at the weekly jam sessions at the Bay Area club the Matrix, and in 1970 played on the Dead's seminal American Beauty LP, Since releasing Hooteroll with Garcia in 1971, Wales has self released seven instrumental studio albums.
Howard's new band for 2016 HTK, includes legendary guitarist Terry Haggerty and drummer Kevin Hayes. These cosmic co-travelers have formed an intrepid alliance, journeying far out beyond the event horizon to the source of all improvisational music. HTK’s pulsating grooves and interplay of space and time captivates, while transporting audiences via their shape shifting and spiraling soundscapes of realized imagination.
