Being a former band member and 1987 graduate of Traverse City High School (now called Traverse City Central High School), I created this YouTube channel as a historical tribute to all things Trojan Band in the '80s, but more importantly, to honor one of Michigan's (and the nation's) best high school band directors, John A. Campbell. Among his accomplishments, Campbell, Director of Bands at TCHS from '80 to '96 (and again, I believe, from '02 to '04), was *awarded the highly prestigious Stanbury Award in 1981 by the ASBDA, was **named Teacher of the Year in 1992 by the MSBOA, ***had four bands perform at the nationally renowned Midwestern Conference in Ann Arbor ('86, '89, '92 and '94) and, at the National Adjudicators Invitational in 1988, his Symphony and Jazz Bands were ****named "Most Outstanding" of the entire event.
