In 2021, I purchased an enormous archive of studio mastertapes, eight-track cassettes and boxes of audio cassettes and more than 2000 CDs that were part of the legendary Wakki Records Studio archive. Wakki Records opened in 1921 and released thousands of albums and singles over its 100 years of operation.
Wakki Records Studio, and most of its archive, was destroyed in the collapse/explosion of the Wright Family media building in Sydney on March 21, 2021 (when do we find out the truth about that?)
While not famous for hit singles and albums, Wakki Records still turned out an incredible array of now classic songs and albums. But more importantly, they released some of the most adventurous, experimental and groundbreaking music in the world. As you will hear for yourself as I open up these archives.
Behind all those records are these studio archive tapes. Demos, alternative tracks, rehearsals, incredible (and failed) experiments. All never-heard-before.
Let's get into it!
