This led him to join Gibson Kente’s acting company, where he honed his skills and began crafting his own groundbreaking plays. Internationally, Mbongeni earned acclaim as a vocal arranger for "The Lion King," winning a Grammy Award for his work. In South Africa, his iconic album "Stimela Sase-Zola" made a lasting impact. He also arranged for Michael Bolton on the "Sing" soundtrack and collaborated with Kenneth Gamble for Third World. His hit "Siyi-Nkatha, Siyi-ANC" remains a powerful call for reconciliation.
