Since 2006, John Koopman III has been a George Washington interpreter. His horse, Abishai, portrays Washington's faithful steed Nelson. Koopman and Abishai have made appearances together up and down the east coast at historic sites, parades, schools, and other venues. The pair have been featured in many documentaries and in the movie "America," shown in theaters nationwide in 2014.
