Gemini Soul is known for their eclectic blend of jazz-funk fusion with an electronic element…“Cyber Jazz.” Their sound is reminiscent of Herbie Hancock’s Head Hunters movement, the bass grooves of Esperanza Spalding and Meshell Ndegeocello, and the 70s fusion of Miles Davis and Return To Forever. From the San Francisco bay area, now residing in the Washington, D.C. area, Gemini Soul released their final album, the sexy and sultry “Willona's Boutique” September 18, 2015. Inspired by the TV character Willona Woods from the show Good Times, the album embodies the horn arrangements of Davis, the space-synth sounds of Hancock, and combines the bass grooves of Spalding. With the absence of percussionist Andrew Foster and drummer Alex Marks, the album was recorded with the founding members Andre Ajamu Akinyele (bass, guitars, keyboards) and Jon O'Bergh (piano, fender rhodes, keyboards), with added support by The Nu Jazz Horns (horns), Earl Jones (percussion), and Dean "Stix" Jones (drums).
